Anne is a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney. Anne’s first experience with Intellectual Property Law was as an inventor. Anne was selected to work in a unique environment as an electronic design engineer at the University of Chicago Hospital.
Under the direction of Robert Beck, her design group, led by Professor Donald Charleston, worked on developing the first ever full body PET scan. Professor Charleston instructed the group in medical physics. The group designed, developed and fabricated PET-related devices, such as an automated FDG mixing device. The group also fabricated and repaired instruments and devices for the University of Chicago Hospital and University of Chicago faculty. The group included engineers, physicists, and machinists, and their facilities included a machine shop and an electronic shop.
While at the University of Chicago, Anne and a co-inventor from the Neurology Department consulted a Chicago patent law firm as a part of the UC patent development process. This experience sparked her interest in Patent Law, and shortly thereafter she entered law school at John Marshall.
While still a student at John Marshall, Anne was hired by Hill, Van Santen, Steadman and Simpson to work as a full-time associate/patent agent (1990-1993). Among the many accomplishments while at the firm was her authorship of the successful brief before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, In re Robert H. Blamer, 6 F.3d 788.
Anne has served as outside counsel for several Fortune 500 companies, where she was noted for her ability to interface seamlessly among business management, in-house counsel, and inventors to maximize value for her clients. She has also served the patent needs of numerous small to mid-sized companies and sole inventors.
Her patent application and prosecution experience include inventions in a variety of technologies, including imaging devices, medical devices, printers, telecommunications, electrical components, packaging machines, semiconductor technology, and software patents.
