James Milton is an attorney with Carmen Patti Law Group, LLC where he practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent law. His experience includes domestic and international patent preparation and prosecution, performing patentability studies and developing patent filing strategies. Technical areas of experience include telecommunication, switching and data transmission, software implemented inventions and wireless technology.
Mr. Milton was formerly Corporate Counsel for Lucent Technologies Inc. (2003-2005) in Holmdel, New Jersey where he was part of an IP-Business Unit group, where he performed prosecution and preparation of patent applications filed in the United States and in international offices and managed outside counsel. Mr. Milton also served as a Member of Technical Staff in Bell Labs Advanced Technologies (1998-2003), where he performed studies that assisted sales teams in selling over $1 billion in equipment and consulting services to domestic and international customers. Mr. Milton was a Lead Consultant at Bellcore (Telcordia) (1984-1998) in Red Bank, New Jersey, where he provided systems engineering and business modeling support for domestic and international telephone companies. Mr. Milton was a Network Services Supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (1979-1984) where he designed special service circuits, screened and assigned service orders to circuit designers, assisted the Field Assistance Bureau in resolving problems, and managed projects that specified the addition, relocation, and removal of central office equipment in the metropolitan St. Louis area.
Mr. Milton received his J.D. and M.B.A. from Rutgers University in 1996 and 1989, respectively. He also received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in 1980. His undergraduate degree, a B.S. in Physics, was received from Morehouse College in 1977. Mr. Milton is licensed to practice law in the state of New Jersey, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
