V. Lawrence (Larry) Sewell is an attorney with the law firm of Carmen Patti Law Group, LLC. Dr. Sewell’s practice is primarily in the field of intellectual property law. His technical fields of experience include telecommunications, computer software, and biomedical engineering.
Dr. Sewell formerly was Managing Intellectual Property Counsel, USA for Paris-based telecommunications manufacturer Alcatel, now Alcatel-Lucent, and Assistant General Counsel of a predecessor U.S. organization DSC Communications Corporation. Prior to that, he served as regional Managing Patent Counsel for Rockwell International Corporation. Also Dr. Sewell was a patent attorney with Texas Instruments Incorporated and with the law firm of Hubbard, Thurman, Turner, Tucker and Glaser in Dallas, TX. His law practice has included patent prosecution, intellectual property aspects of agreements and acquisition and divestiture, resolution of infringement disputes, and trademark management. Dr. Sewell’s biomedical engineering experience included appointments as a Research Associate at The University of Texas at Austin, performing electrophysiological studies, as well as Assistant Professor and Manager of the Research Data Acquisition Facility at the Medical College of Virginia, where he developed interactive simulations of physiological systems for medical education.
Dr. Sewell holds B.A. (cum laude) and B.S. Electrical Engineering degrees from Rice University, a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and a J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Texas, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
